Overcoming Fear

KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS

Peter walked on water—until he didn’t. He saw the waves, he felt the wind, and fear swallowed him whole. Down he went.

We know this story because it is ours. We start strong. We commit. We trust. And then? We notice the storm. Bills pile up. Relationships fray. Someone attempt to destroy your reputation. Fear whispers: You’re sinking.

That’s the problem—when fear becomes louder than faith. When storms become bigger than the Savior.

But the solution is right here: keep your eyes on Jesus.

As long as Peter’s eyes were fixed on Jesus, he walked. The impossible became possible.

But the moment he focused on the storm, he went under. The same is true for us. Focus on the problem, and you drown in it. Focus on Christ, and you rise above it.

So ask yourself: what are the waves in your life right now? Is it the anxiety that steals your sleep? The bills you don’t know how to pay? The grief that won’t go away?

Here’s what Jesus says to you in those moments: “Take courage. It is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)

Notice how quickly He responded to Peter’s cry: “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out His hand. He does the same for you.

You may think God will scold you for doubting. But Jesus’ word oligopisté—“little faith”—was not a harsh insult. It was like a gentle nickname, as if saying, “My little one, still learning.”

Hear this: doubt doesn’t disqualify you. Fear doesn’t end your story. What matters is that you cry out. Jesus will always take your hand. Focus on the storm, you’ll sink. Focus on Jesus, you’ll stand.
